Today I thought I would do the makeup story tag because it's been a while since I've done one and I reckon it would be pretty interesting to look back on in a few years time to see how much my opinions on the questions have changed(especially since I still kind of consider myself a beginner as I began properly wearing it not so long ago).
I started playing around with my mum's old makeup at the ages of 9 or 10 looking at myself in a trusty Hello Kitty mirror(ohh the memories),happily sat in my bedroom still filled with High School Musical merchandise.I properly wore it daily around the time I turned 13.
How did you get into makeup?
Most likely soon after begining to watch Youtube videos where I first discovered Zoella back in 2012 after watching the"My brother does my makeup challenge" video and then I gradually found other people like Tanya Burr and Sprinkle of Glitter, who I saw she had featured. From then on after,I was instantly hooked onto the beauty guru community.
What are some of your favourite brands?
My favourite brands are probably Collection,Maybelline and Rimmel since they're my most used from the drugstore.I haven't tried many high end brands however but I would most likely pick Benefit or MAC.
What does makeup mean to you?
Well lets see...I began wearing makeup mainly because I was starting to get spots, blackheads and all that stuff that comes in the little package called 'puberty' so I guess makeup for me is a way of gaining a bit of confidence back.In addition,I also think makeup is a great way of expressing yourself and getting creative(I suppose its a form of art as some would say).
If you could only wear 4 products on your face, what would they be?
Foundation, powder, mascara and an eyebrow product-easy as that.
What is your favourite thing about makeup?
How it's fun and exciting to be able to wake up each day and be able to get creative each morning.
What do you think about drugstore makeup vs high end makeup?
You get what you pay for when you buy drugstore, for example the packagings never going to be as exuberant or luxurious as say a £36 pound Tom Ford lippy compared to some average Rimmel one.Having said that though I do think the actual products can sometimes both be almost equally a bit of a hit and miss, especially the foundations because everyone is different if yah get what I mean? Not everything will work for everyone no matter the price is what I'm trying to point out hehe.
What is one tip of advice you can give to a beginner?
Have fun,do what makes you happy...after all there's no real rules to makeup. If you don't get things right the first time, remember that practice makes perfect!
What is one makeup trend you never understood?
None that I can think of so far from the top of my head.
What do you think about the beauty community on YouTube?
In my opinion,I think the communities great. The people all seem ever so lovely and their tips and tutorials have been a real lifesaver(who knows what horror I would have done to my face without their helpful videos lol).I really enjoy seeing youtubers being able to have been lucky enough to do a job they genuinely love.
